BOOK BINDING - FLIP TOP CASE WORKSHOP
WITH LETICIA BURKARDT AND TIAGO CASANOVA

In this workshop, you'll make a book and a box tailored for it, all from scratch!

The book will have a hardcover and a classic finish, with a square spine and covered in fabric. From folding the paper to sewing and assembling the cover, you'll master every step. You'll also learn to add elements like marker tape and rubber bands. Then you'll make a box with a simple lid tailored for the book you've bound. You will also take measurements, calculate the size of the pieces, assemble the structure, and learn about the types of coatings and customization possibilities.

This workshop offers many possibilities for those who want to delve into binding and cartooning. By the end of this weekend, you'll leave with a personally crafted gift, either for yourself or your loved ones.

 

Leticia Burkardt decided to leave architecture to devote herself to her long-time passion, books. She is the founder of Estúdio Bulhufas, where she develops and builds books using manual techniques combined with a contemporary look.

Tiago Casanova, photographer and visual artist, shares this passion for book publishing. In 2010 he founded Scopio Magazine, in 2013 the Livraria e Editora XYZ Books, in 2014 the cultural space A ILHA, and in 2017 the Estúdio Bulhufas.

THE COURSE FEE INCLUDES:

• Integration in a small workgroup (from 6 to 10 participants)

• Training 5-6 hours a day, speaking in English and with support in Portuguese;

• All the materials needed for the course;

• Free accommodation in our shared residences during the course (upon availability). The residences are equipped with a dormitory, kitchen, shared bathrooms, washing machine, towels, bed linen, and wi-fi;

• 10% discount on the base rate when booking an individual house (minimum of 2 nights). The base rate refers to a stay of 2 people and includes breakfast, equipped kitchen, towels, bed linen, and wi-fi.

ADICIONAL LUNCH SERVICE:

Lunch package for 14€/meal when booked at least one week before check-in. After this date, the regular price applies.

CANCELLATION POLICY FOR COURSES AND WORKSHOPS

You may withdraw within 14 days of registration, paying the correspondent transfer fees. Following the EU consumer protection legislation, payments are not refunded past 14 days of registration. The payment will be fully reimbursed if the training cannot be held because of insufficient students.

Suppose the training is canceled by Cerdeira - Home For Creativity for reasons of significant force such as a pandemic, civil disorder, a natural catastrophe, medical or family issues of the teacher, and others beyond our control. In that case, Cerdeira will offer a voucher for a different workshop of your choice. The voucher is valid for two years.
