CERAMICS COURSE - form into fire

WITH ROBBIE HEIDINGER

It is with this curious eye that Robbie Heidinger looks at everything around him. Life and its organic forms have become the source of inspiration for the artwork he has been developing. In this course Robbie will guide participants through this world of discovery, helping them to make the most of their ideas and creativity through his vast experience.

The focus of work on the Ceramics Course will be plate construction to create sculptural or utilitarian pieces. The techniques of stencilling, monoprinting and direct application of engobes will be demonstrated and explored. After this phase, we will choose the option that best takes advantage of the exposure to fire and flame in the wood kiln firing.

All participants will have the opportunity to fire their own pieces. The wood-fired cooking, the dynamic dialogue between form and fire and the active participation in this process is a unique experience that everyone will be able to be a part of.

Robbie Heidinger

Robbie Heidinger was born in the U.S.A and completed her degree in painting from New York University. She started being interested in working with clay from her desire to have a three-dimensional canvas. Her ceramic work of the last two decades is the result of a constant exploration of the intersection between painting and clay.

In her biomorphic pieces, she seeks the abstraction of organic forms. “My work is very tactile,” says the ceramist, “it fulfills the need to feel something natural and attractive, and it seduces and rewards its viewer with a connection to organic structures, to life.”

 Robbie Heidinger's work is spread all over the world: in museums, galleries and universities. For the past two years, she has been a guest artist at Blanc de Chine International Artist Residency and Shangyu Celadon Modern International Artist Residency (China).

CERAMICS course details

SCHEDULE

Course: 10h-13h and 15h-18h (The schedule is flexible on the days the firing starts and ends)

Studio: Open until 21h

CONDITIONS

• Enrollments up to 2 months before the course start date.

• 10% discount on the total cost of the course if you make a prompt-payment at least 3 months before the course start date.

The Ceramics Course fee includes:

• Integration in a small workgroup (from 5 to 10 participants)

• Training 6 hours a day, spoken in English and with support in Portuguese;

• Studio open 12 hours a day;

• All the materials needed for the course and firings

• Free accommodation in our shared residences during the course (upon availability). The residences are equipped with a dormitory, kitchen, shared bathrooms, washing machine, towels, bed linen and wi-fi;

• 10% discount on the base rate when booking an individual house (minimum of 2 nights). The base rate refers to a stay of 2 people and includes breakfast, equipped kitchen, towels, bed linen and wi-fi.

ADICIONAL LUNCH SERVICE:

Lunch package for 14€/meal when booked at least one week before check-in. After this date, the regular price applies.

CANCELLATION POLICY FOR COURSES AND WORKSHOPS

You may withdraw within 14 days of registration, paying the correspondent transfer fees. Following the EU consumer protection legislation, payments are not refunded past 14 days of registration. The payment will be fully reimbursed if the training cannot be held because of insufficient students.

Suppose the training is canceled by Cerdeira - Home For Creativity for reasons of significant force such as a pandemic, civil disorder, a natural catastrophe, medical or family issues of the teacher, and others beyond our control. In that case, Cerdeira will offer a voucher for a different workshop of your choice. The voucher is valid for two years.
