Making Pots for the Kitchen and Table
From 9 to 19 February 2027, Cerdeira welcomes ceramic artists Álvaro Villamañan and Barry Krzywicki for 10 days dedicated to functional ceramics, Shino glazes and wood firing.
Throughout the course, participants will create pots, mugs, jugs, bowls and containers, mainly using the potter’s wheel, while developing their technical skills through intensive, hands-on practice.
The course will also explore leather-hard decoration, inlay and sgraffito, followed by an in-depth introduction to three Shino glaze recipes and their application.
The experience culminates in a wood firing in Cerdeira’s Sasukenei smokeless kiln. Participants will learn how to load and position their pieces and take part in the firing process, discovering how flame, ash and heat contribute to the unique character of each piece.
Set in the mountains of the Serra da Lousã, this is an opportunity to immerse yourself in ceramics, learn alongside experienced artists and experience the full process, from clay to fire.
