In the Paperclay and Paperporcelain course, participants can explore these materials, discovering their delicacy, unique properties, and endless creative possibilities. A special material that needs equally special treatment, and there's no one like Patty to guide us through it.

After an introduction to paperclay and paperporcelain, followed by a practical demonstration, Patty will share with the group the distinct qualities of paperclay, its advantages and ways of handling it. Over the course of five days, you will have the opportunity to learn and practice different techniques for forming the paste and participate in the entire ceramic process, from preparing the paste to firing (1300ºC).

It's a course that allows you to create a series of porcelain pieces, individually designed and created by each participant, with the support of the trainer and assistants.

Taking advantage of the lightness and translucency of the raw material, luminous objects or objects for the table can be created. In the end, you will leave Cerdeira with new skills, knowledge, and a small collection of your own handmade pieces, memories that will inspire and enable you to continue your ceramics journey.

PAPER CLAY & PAPER PORCELAIN COURSE PROGRAM:

• Paperclay and paper porcelain introduction  - what is paper clay? Artistic, creative, and technical aspects of these materials;

• Understanding differences between paper clay and regular clay in general;

• How to make paper clay and paper porcelain;

• Explore different ways of modeling - hand building, slabs, coils, molds, armatures, use of other organic material;

• Creation of pieces with paper clay as small vessels and light object in paper porcelain;

SCHEDULE:

• September 24th:

From 3 pm: Accommodation and check-in of participants 

5 pm: Reception at the studio and presentation of the group and trainers;

7:30 pm: Welcome dinner at Casa das Artes

• September 25th-29th: 

Course from 10 am to 6 pm, with a two-hour lunch break

The studio is open from 6 pm to 10 pm.

  September 30th:

Until 11 am: check-out from accommodation

THE COURSE FEE INCLUDES:

Training 5-6 hours a day, speaking in English and with support in Portuguese;

• Open studio 12 hours a day;

• Lunch during the course, from September 25th to 29th;

• Free accommodation at the hostel during the course (6 nights)*;

• All the materials needed for the course;

• Welcome dinner on the first day of the course;

*The hostel is equipped with two dormitories (female/masculine), a kitchen, and two shared bathrooms. The booking includes towels and linen.

ACCOMMODATION UPGRADES AVAILABLE:

• Upgrade to 6 nights in a standard schist house shared by 2 participants and breakfast at an additional cost of 420€/per participant. Includes shared room, equipped kitchen, towels, and bed linen. 

• Upgrade to 6 nights in a standard schist house for single occupancy by 1 participant and breakfast, with an additional cost of 600€/per participant. Includes single room, equipped kitchen, towels, and bed linen.

CANCELLATION POLICY FOR COURSES AND WORKSHOPS

You may withdraw within 14 days of registration, paying the correspondent transfer fees. Following the EU consumer protection legislation, payments are not refunded past 14 days of registration. The payment will be fully reimbursed if the training cannot be held because of insufficient students.

Suppose the training is canceled by Cerdeira - Home For Creativity for reasons of significant force such as a pandemic, civil disorder, a natural catastrophe, medical or family issues of the teacher, and others beyond our control. In that case, Cerdeira will offer a voucher for a different workshop of your choice. The voucher is valid for two years.
