Rudimentary Kilns Workshop
Construction and operation of rudimentary kilns
For those that are considering a start into ceramics, the lack of a kiln seems a difficult obstacle to overcome because it requires an even greater investment.
But there are alternatives ...
In these three days, we will build small kiln that fire with gas or wood and where we can fire our pieces carefully. On the first day, we will make small objects using different kinds of clay to adapt the best way to each way of firing. We will learn how kilns work and then safely fire.
At the end of the third day we can take our works out of the kiln, draw conclusions about the firing processes and of course take them home.
What you will learn:
• Different clays for different purposes;
• Construction and operation of a small rudimentary kiln (paper kiln, wood pipe kiln, and small gas kiln);
• Preparation of greenware for firing;
• Engobes and glazing decoration.
Upon registration in the course, we offer accommodation in our shared residence "Residences" where you can have access to a fully equipped shared kitchen. You can bring products that need cold and groceries, because we have where to store and cook them. We recommend that you do so because during the course it is difficult to travel to Lousã to go to the supermarket.
If you prefer the privacy of an individual house, you have a 10% discount on the booking price of the home.
