10 tips for safe travel during the Covid-19 pandemic

Times have been difficult ever since the global pandemic caused by the new coronavirus COVID-19 threatened to change the world as we knew it before. Now, we’re all learning to live in this "new normal" and as such, we have to change our habits and that can leave us all a bit lost.

That’s why we’ve have put together some useful tips that will help you travel safely and in a more relaxed way. 😉

1. FOCUS ON NATURE DESTINATIONS.
Trips to large urban centers should be in the background, at least for now. Rural tourism, adventure tourism, beaches, rivers, lakes and walks in the countryside is the way to go this year.

2. PREPARE A STRICT PLAN OF THE PLACES YOU INTEND TO VISIT AND AVOID CROWDS.
Avoid very busy tourist places, especially at peak times. Prefer open spaces, with few contact surfaces (benches, handrails, small ornaments, etc.) and take the opportunity to discover “secret” sites that are still little visited!

3. WASH OR DISINFECT YOUR HANDS FREQUENTLY
Especially after being in contact with surfaces in very busy places such as service stations, picnic parks, toilets and restaurants.

4. GO PREPARED FOR THE CAR TRIP.
Try to avoid stops on the way to eat or refuel the car. Instead, prepare a snack to take on the trip and fill the tank before leaving. If the stop is really necessary, remember to wear a mask when you are in contact with other people.

5. CHOOSE THE BEST FORM OF TRANSPORT FOR YOU.
If you decide to travel by public transport, try to buy tickets for the least busy time of the day and always prefer seats near windows, for better ventilation.

6. ANTICIPATE EVERYTHING YOU WILL NEED.
Plan a trip to the supermarket before leaving to buy food and other products you will need during your stay. Also bring enough medication, disinfectant alcohol and masks to avoid going to the pharmacy.

7. KEEP YOUR PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT IN EASILY ACCESSIBLE PLACES.
Keep your mask, disinfectant alcohol and other equipment always close to you. That way, you are more likely to remember to use them more often.

8. FIND ACCOMMODATION IN A PRIVATE HOUSE
Stay in a place where you can cook your own meals, reducing contact with other customers.

9. STAY ONLY IN ACCOMMODATIONS WITH THE CLEAN & SAFE CERTIFICATION.
Now, more than ever, health safety is a priority and the protocols adopted by each company must be decisive in the destination choice by travelers. Read, research and make a conscious choice.

10. SEARCH FOR RELIABLE SOURCES OF INFORMATION.
Try to understand the veracity and quality of the information that surrounds you - in these cases there is a tendency to exaggerate the truth, so it is important to understand the true state of the situation. It is never too much to remember the visit to the pages of the DGS and the World Health Organization for official information and recommendations.
